Norway's Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives Thorbjohn Gaustadsaether (Thorbjønn Koststhister) stated that Sri Lanka has made remarkable measures on media freedom.
The 20th Anniversary of Media Freedom and Social Responsibility, which commences on 27th of October, will be held in Colombo until the 30th. The Norwegian Ambassador has commented on the issue.
The Norwegian Ambassador pointed out that in recent times Sri Lanka has undertaken a number of creative activities for media freedom. Representatives from Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Jemeni, India, Norway, Pakistan and the United Kingdom will attend the Colombo Declaration.
With support from the Norwegian Embassy, The Sri Lanka Press Institute will mark the anniversary from September 27th-29th with an international symposium in Colombo.
International experts, two of them from Norway, will lecture on subjects related to safety of journalists, social media and fake news, the threat to quality journalism, the power of journalism and other interesting topics.
