Drug seller Opened fire on Sohail Khan while on the way to home

PESHAWAR:  Another journalist has fallen prey to anti-social elements on Tuesday October 16, when drug dealers attacked him in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Haripur district. According to police officials, young journalist Mohammad Sohail Khan having affiliation with Daily K2 newspapers, was intercepted by armed men and opened indiscriminate firing on him near his home at  Hattar area of Haripur when he was coming to home from office. As result, he was killed on spot. Soon after attack, a large contingent of police reached the area, collected evidence and shifted his body to district headquarters hospital (DHQ) for post mortem.It is believed that he was killed by the drug dealers as he received threats calls from drug dealers’ hours before he got killed for filing story against them.  At the morning, he visited a local police station at Haripur and filed an FIR against drug dealers for receiving death threats for filing story against them. The deputy inspector general (DIG) police, Hazara have taken notice of the killing, direct the law enforcement agency to constitute a special team to chase the culprits as soon as possible. It is the second assassination in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hazara Division in one and half year as bureau chief of another media outlet was killed in the same district. Bakhshish Elahi, the bureau chief of an Urdu newspaper, was targeted by unidentified motorcyclists near Lora Chowk when he was heading to work. Pakistan is ranked among the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists.

Meanwhile,Professor Qaribur Rahman Saeed the co-founder of ICPFJ strongly condemns the brutal killing of a young journalist Sohail Khan in Pakistani district a statement, Professor Qaribur Rahman said, that it was the second incident during the current year and it’s proved that the Government of Pakistan has failed to protect journalists. He demanded the Government of Pakistan to investigate and arrest the killer of journalist Sohail Khan and provide safety to the journalists of Pakistan.
