Chairman of International Center for the Protection and Freedom of Journalists (ICPFJ) Dr Hatef Mokhtar on Sunday praised the actions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government for the development of Bangladesh.
Dr Hatef, the chief of ICPFJ, an independent and non-profit journalist organisation, came up with the statement while meeting Prime Minister’s Media Adviser and the Daily Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury at his office at Motijheel in the capital.
At the meeting, they discussed various issues including Bangladeshi media, freedom of expression and the development of the country.
Dr Hatef also appreciated Prime Minister Hasina’s role on the Rohingya issue adding that by welcoming the Rohingyas in Bangladesh she set an example of her humanity at the international level.
Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, during the meeting focused on various aspects of the ruling party, the Awami League.
Iqbal Sobhan also informed that “The PM did not spare any opportunity to give priority to women, adding that our Speaker of the Parliament, Deputy Leader in the House, Supreme Court Justice are females. Recently, she promoted a lady Army officer to the rank of Major General for the first time in the country.”
He added that Bangladesh has achieved the status of a Developing Country from the status of the least developed countries during the tenure of her government.
ICPFJ is a strong advocate for the freedom of expression and works actively against biased journalism. The center is also committed to its mission against extremism and is part of the fight against oppressive or tyrannical regimes running the affairs of countries.
